Grantmaking

Connected, Resilient and Futureproof Communities

The Tim Fairfax Family Foundation (TFFF) exists to provide much-needed support to rural, regional, and remote communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory, who experience a range of unique challenges stemming from their geographical location. As a family foundation, the TFFF values connectedness, resilience, sustainability, and leadership, and actively supports organisations, initiatives, and endeavours which cultivate and strengthen these qualities within our priority communities.

Throughout this report a ^ symbol identifies an Indigenous-led organisation or agreement where TFFF funding has benefited Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Below is a selection of statistics and testimonials which summarise the TFFF’s grantmaking activities in FY24.

Community support for TFFF-funded organisations

The kids had an absolute ball participating in the workshops. I would also like to say how amazing the staff are that ran the workshops, they were able to remember everyone's name in attendance at both workshops I witnessed, which shows their professionalism and dedication. You could see their enthusiasm flowing through to the kids.

Cairns Indigenous Art Fair staff visited my studio in early 2022 and encouraged me to elevate my work to bring it onto the catwalk and invited me to CIAF 2022 fashion performance and art market. The encouragement alone gave me the confidence to work on my ‘Tawalpin- String Making’ collection in 2022 and then to again bring my 2023 collection ‘dilly bag and mat making collection’. This exposure and experience led to other work including the invitation to be part of Mob in Fashion shows, working on the Capricorn theatre production main costume (goldfish) and a dress for the Oscars 2023 and Logies 2023. I’m forever grateful to CIAF.

BJ from School to Jobs delivered a really informative session. I could not resist but to approach him after his presentation to discuss steps to help me succeed. I knew I had to make myself as employable as possible, so I was happy to get the support of School to Jobs.

Working with TFFF

It has been amazing to see the growth and development of MHiPS and we are very appreciative to Tim Fairfax Family Foundation for the opportunity to work within QLD. There will be lots of new learnings I have no doubt but hope that with the appropriate groundwork the program will be as successful in QLD as what we are seeing here in VIC.

Thank you for your confidence in our strategic plan, our governance and our leadership as we work to continue to empower Indigenous people from regional and remote Australia and become one of the great enduring educational and leadership foundation.
